Common dryer problems we diagnose

We commonly diagnose:

  • dryer runs but does not heat
  • dryer does not start
  • clothes remain damp after a full cycle
  • dryer overheats
  • dryer stops during a cycle
  • drum does not turn
  • squealing, scraping, or rumbling noises
  • burning smell
  • error codes
  • poor airflow

The dryer is not always the whole problem

Poor drying performance can sometimes be caused by a restricted home ventilation line rather than a failed dryer component.

A dryer may produce heat normally but still dry poorly if hot moist air cannot leave the machine efficiently.

If we identify evidence of restricted external venting, we will explain that separately from the appliance repair.

What we may check

Depending on the complaint, diagnosis may include:

  • heating element or gas ignition system
  • thermal fuse and thermostats
  • temperature sensors
  • motor
  • belt, rollers, and idler
  • airflow through the dryer
  • power supply
  • control system
  • visible internal lint accumulation

Brands

We service many common household appliance brands, including Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, GE, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG and others.

Safety

If you notice a burning smell, melted wiring, smoke, or significant overheating, stop using the dryer until it has been inspected.

Repair or replace?

Many dryer repairs make good economic sense, especially when the problem involves common wear components or heating-system parts.

For older appliances or more expensive failures, we explain the repair cost before proceeding so you can decide whether repair is worthwhile.

Diagnostic and repair pricing

The standard diagnostic visit is $85.

If you approve the recommended repair, the $85 diagnostic fee is applied toward the repair.

If the problem can be completely resolved during the diagnostic visit without a separate repair visit, the total service charge is $190.

Parts or more involved repairs are quoted before proceeding.

Repair warranty

Completed repairs include a 2-month warranty covering the work performed and the replaced part.

The warranty does not cover unrelated failures elsewhere in the appliance.

Dryer repair FAQ

Why does my dryer run but not heat?

Possible causes include a failed heating component, thermal protection device, ignition component on gas dryers, power supply issue, wiring problem, or control issue.

Why does the dryer heat but clothes stay wet?

Restricted ventilation is a common possibility. The dryer may heat correctly while airflow through the home's exhaust line is inadequate.

Is a noisy dryer worth repairing?

Often yes, especially when the problem involves rollers, an idler, belt, or another wear component. The appliance age and overall condition still matter.

Should I continue using a dryer with a burning smell?

No. Stop using the dryer until the source of the smell or overheating has been identified.
